The NASCAR Cup Series returns to the streets of Chicago for the downtown street course around Grant Park, a 2.2-mile, 12-turn layout that runs along the lakefront and weaves past Buckingham Fountain. Street-course racing is its own animal: concrete walls, zero runoff, brake-zone overtakes, and a curb-hopping rhythm that punishes the smallest mistake. The July 4 weekend slot gives the race a holiday-evening feel.
Watch the road-course specialists early, Shane van Gisbergen at Trackhouse coming off his shocking 2023 debut win, Chris Buescher at RFK, and the Joe Gibbs Toyota camp with Christopher Bell and Ty Gibbs. Stage 1 sets up the tire-falloff picture, Stage 2 shakes out fuel windows, and the final stage typically comes down to a late caution and a restart through Turn 1. Chevy, Ford, and Toyota all have road-course winners on the grid, and a Chicago-summer rain shower has rewritten the script before.
